CATA’s Impact in 2024: A Year of Advocacy, Outreach, and Empowerment

Updated: 3 days ago

At CATA, we’re proud to share the meaningful impact of our work throughout 2024. From advocating for immigrant rights to promoting food justice, we have achieved incredible milestones that empower farmworkers and their families. These accomplishments are only possible thanks to the support of people like you.

During the holidays, we invite you to take action. Whether through a one-time gift or by becoming a sustaining donor with a recurring contribution, your support ensures that we can continue this vital work.

Farmworker Outreach: Standing Strong with Workers

In 2024, our outreach efforts made a tangible difference in the lives of over 1,250 migrant workers:

  • 85+ locations visited, providing on-the-ground support for safe and fair working and living conditions.

  • Helped 659 workers apply for emergency aid through the FFWR Fund.

  • Addressed 99 labor and health-related challenges, offering critical case support to workers in need.

Food Justice: Growing Access to Healthy Food

Through our Food Justice Program, we’re ensuring that everyone—especially the most vulnerable—has access to culturally appropriate, fresh produce:

  • 93 families were fed with locally grown produce.

  • 6 high school interns became leaders in food justice, inspiring future change-makers.

  • Hosted 11 market days and increased produce variety by 33%, introducing 6 new products.

With 220 pounds of fresh produce harvested, and the acceptance of SNAP, Good Food Bucks, WIC, and Senior FMNP, we’re breaking down barriers to healthy food access.

The RESPIRAR Project: Advancing Health Equity

CATA is proud to collaborate with partners like the University of Maryland on the RESPIRAR project, focusing on how institutional racism impacts farmworkers’ health. This year, we:

  • Conducted 800+ COVID-19 tests and sample collections.

  • Reached 377 farmworkers through outreach efforts.

  • Enrolled 66 farmworkers to participate in this vital research.

These efforts are critical to driving systemic change and improving health outcomes for the communities we serve.

Advocacy: Fighting for Immigrant and Worker Rights

From challenging wage discrimination to advocating for expanded rights, CATA has remained on the frontlines of advocacy. This year, we:

  • Filed a Lawsuit Against the State of NJ for Discrimination Against Farmworkers

  • Campaigned for unemployment benefits for undocumented workers in NJ.

  • Advocated for universal driver’s licenses in PA.

  • Supported legislation to protect workers from extreme heat and expand paid leave for those without Social Security numbers.

Through marches, public testimonies, and grassroots organizing, we’ve made real progress for immigrant and worker rights.

RadioCATA: A Voice for the Community

In 2024, RadioCATA amplified voices and built connections:

  • 5 volunteer DJs hosted live shows, bringing diverse perspectives to our programming.

  • Produced 25 episodes of “Sí Se Puede”

  • Collaborated with partners to share resources:

    • Community Calendar of South Jersey events.

    • Weekly local news in Spanish via AMA Collaborative and Montclair University.

Thanks to a $50,000 renewal grant from IPMF, we’re expanding our reach and impact.
